Assignment One Methods and Protocols

ASSIGNMENT ONE- METHODS AND PROTOCOLS!

TASK A:

TASK B:

Snapchat is a mobile messaging application which is used to send photos, videos, texts and audios- it's a free application, allowing you to also send free messages. Snapchat  has recently updated the app and  added a group chat feature.  There are a few advantages of using this app along with a few disadvantages. The main advantage of this app is that you can send photos and videos which then self destroy- this means that they delete forever, it allows you to exchange information without worrying about anything because everything you share soon disappears. Snapchat is also known for the many unique snapchat filters along with the app allowing you to edit each video you take.
Snapchat also has a few disadvantages- one of which is that if you screenshot any photo the user who sent it can see that you've screenshotted it. Another  disadvantage of snapchat is one that has been throughout the news- you can share risky photos which aren't detected and does nothing, then disappears.
Some statistics show that:
  • Snapchat has 100+ million daily active users, plus 5 billion videos are viewed every single day.
  • Over 60% of smartphone users between 13-34 in America are using the app and 77% of them are over the age of 18.
Text messaging has been around the longest and was invented before social media.  The advantages of text messaging are that two people are able to have a conversation without having to speak and risk someone in public over hearing the conversation. Another advantage is that it is possible to have multiple conversations with multiple people, as well as being very convenient when someone wants to quickly say something to another person.
One major disadvantage of this is that it has become a massive risk of texting whilst driving.  Another small disadvantage is that there is also a character limit meaning that you can't send long messages.
Messenger is a very popular app which supports  Facebook and allows users to message  on group chats or private messages. The advantages of using this app is that it's free to use but pretty much the exact same as texting. Although messenger uses mobile data when out, you can still send texts, images and videos without accessing the costs. Another advantage of this app is that you can make free calls whether it be video or audio.
The disadvanages of this app are that it can drain your battery very quickly and it's difficult to completely protect your privacy.  This is because part of the terms and conditions that you have to accept are accessing your camera and voice settings.

Here is another example of Facebook Messenger and how my group of friends are using it. Apart from allowing you to send the basic messages, videos, photos and audios; you can also send stickers, emoji's, GIFS and the new feature allows you to play games, putting you against the other users in your group or whoever you are individually messaging. Messenger also allows you to change the colour of the chat and set nicknames for the other users within the chat.

TASK C:

WEB 2.0 REPORT!

Web 2.0 represents the move towards the social web aspect, it was created to gain a more interactive and responsive web. It's seen as a "marker of change in the philosophy of web companies and web developers." It is the current state of online technology and it is characterised by a greater use of interactivity as well as collaboration because more people can edit work online and create their own views. Web 2.0 is a more updated version of the original static web- websites now allow community based input along with collaborations. Social media is a perfect example of this, these types of social media sites and applications include: forums, microblogging, social networking, social curation and wikis.

There are a few elements of web 2.0, one of the main ones is a wiki, this is a website that enables users to contribute and collaborate with the sites content, one of the most well- known ones is Wikipedia. Another main one is social networking, "The practise of expanding the number of one's business and/or social contacts by making connections through individuals." Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ are all example of social media websites.

Over the years technology has broadened audio and video reports because people who may not be featured in newspapers or magazines can have the opportunity to write up their own stories. Also it helps journalists because instead of writing notes from a recent interview or press conference they are able to record it with their phones. As more people read news stories online there often is a video which supports the story- majority of people record and upload rather that write an extended amount and then upload with a few images.

Technology has also helped with increasing the amount of citizen journalists around the world and in the UK. A citizen journalist is when an individual does what a professional reporters do which is report information. This can be in form of a textual piece, using pictures, recording audio as well as recording videos. A citizen journalist will also broadcast the latest news online and sometimes it can be shared live on social media for people to see. This has had an impact on the area of journalism because people in public are able to catch something on their phone and share it to social media within minutes of it happening before professional journalist write up a report or article on that certain subject.
