The Visit Analysis:
The writer starts off the travel piece with an image and a caption- this is interesting for the reader as it will make them want to read on. From the first paragraph Laura (the writer) describes what they are doing and why exactly they are doing it, also telling the reader where they are along with explaining the importance of her going to visit the girl she sponsored. Throughout the second paragraph the writer is using first person language making it a diary entry, she then goes on to describe her actions and surroundings along with adding humour to keep the reader interested; she does this by saying " My backpack is stuffed to its limit with cooking oil and school supplies. This may be part of the reason I am falling off this motorcycle."
From reading the last sentence of the second paragraph Laura (the writer) could be trying to keep the reader on edge - making them read onto the next paragraph. The next paragraph follows on with a simple sentence to create rhythm, pace and tempo. This paragraph is portrayed in an informal way to make it easy to read without boring the reader. From the first page the reader has discovered where the writer is, what she is doing there and why she is visiting Indonesia! Towards the end of the third paragraph Laura using another simple sentence to yet again set rhythm, pace and tempo. The next sentence states the main theme of the travel piece in order to raise awareness of sponsoring young children.
Although this piece is quite informal the writer still uses language features as well as presentational features;she uses images along with captions to again keep the reader engaged. The following complex sentence describes fully how her sponsored child is feeling and explaining the fact that they are both nervous.
Orlando,
located in Florida lies resorts, hotels, villas and thrill seeking
rollercoasters. Held across 25,000 acres Walt Disney World brings magical
memories with a hint of thrill and excitement. Arriving at the airport, ready to enjoy 14
days of sun, theme parks and some of my favourite characters. Firstly, it was
time to start our adventure; finding the villa, tackling traffic and battling
the humidity as it hits your skin; slowly stepping out of the airport ready to
start 14 days of making mesmerising memories and falling infectiously in love
with the characters, princesses and princes as you set of on the best holiday
of your lifetime.
Spending hours on a plane is surprisingly an
eye catching experience; the luxury of flying premium economy with Virgin
Atlantic. Binge watching films or jamming out to music? Whatever works best for
you. Feeling peckish? Enough food to last a lifetime, making you feel as if
you’re the only person on the plane, welcoming you as if you’re at your own
home. What more could you ask for? After the long 9 hours of flying and then
landing in a different country, double or even triple the temperature is
amazing, feeling as if you’re instantly gaining a tan. Thinking to yourself… Is
this place even reality?
The thought of spending
14 days in hot weather strolling around theme parks isn’t all what is called
fun. Visiting restaurants you’ve never heard of before, trying out spontaneous
foods you’ve never tried before and meeting new people is what makes this
adventure worth remembering. Americans
bring such a presence which makes you feel happy and allows you not to miss
home as much as you would if it was a completely different experience, however,
there’s only one thing that might annoy you which is the excessive amount of
people. You can avoid the masses most of the time, for example, booking tables
in different places, having days out away from the parks, searching for other
things to do. This brings me to talk about shopping malls… make sure you have
some room in your suitcase because you will want to buy everything. Shops you
would never imagine would stock so many things in one store, you have to triple
take to fully take in your surroundings. Walking through, staring in awe and
smiling to yourself thinking… surely this isn’t real? Major shopping centres
like Gunwharf and West Quay are nothing compared to this, they are at least two
or three times the size. If I were you I would seriously consider it. Don’t expect to have a chilled holiday, this
is all about having fun, getting up early and going to bed late. Not just for a
couple of days but every single day. Ok maybe one or two days rest but this
holiday is fit for those who want to enjoy rides, whether it be interactive or
a rollercoaster, there are rides to fit all ages and all audiences. Orlando
Florida, what an amazing place!
