The Sun is owned by Rupert Murdoch, it is published by the news group newspapers division of news UK and he is the CEO of News Corp. He is an Australian-born American media mogul, his father had been a reporter, editor and Senior executive of the Herald and Weekly Times.

He then became the new owner of the social media site MySpace.com and then two years later made the purchase of Dow Jones, the owner of the Wall Street Journal. A media conglomerate is a company that owns large numbers of companies in various mass media such as television, radio, publishing and the internet- media conglomerates strive for policies that facilitate their control of the markets across the globe.

Horizontal integration:

Contempt of court:
- This law exists to protect the running of the court and to give everyone a fair trial.
- It is covered by the contempt of court act (CCA) 1981
- The maximum prison sentence in the UK is 2 years but the law is becoming increasingly difficult to enforce.
If you commit a crime- or even if you are accused of a crime you have the right to a fair trial.
In this country there are two types of law:
- Common Law and Statute Law
- Common law is law set by precedent- decisions on previous cases
- Statute law is written law- decided by legislation.
A jury is 12 members of the public who hear the evidence in a case and decide on a verdict- guilty/ not guilty.
